Simulation of a two-stage metal hydride heat transformer and experimental studies on a misch metal-nickel(4.5)-aluminium(0.5) reactor.

Summary

Simulation of a two-stage metal hydride heat transformer is carried out. The results are obtained for the lanthanum rich misch metal alloys, for which experimental results are available in the literature. The overall performance of the system obtained from the simulation were compared with experimental values. Heat and mass transfer performance of individual reactor governs the overall performance of metal hydride systems. In order to study this aspect, experiments are carried out on a hydride reactor augmented with an aluminum mesh. The effects of different parameters on the hydrogen transfer rates during desorption and absorption are presented.
