2002/91/EC directive on the energy performance of buildings establishes the need of the HVAC systems energy consumption estimation. One way to calculate HVAC energy consumption, used by well-known software as DOE-2, HAP or Energy Plus, is based on the definition of the HVAC systems using two set of properties: 1) nominal conditions performance properties. These properties establish the systems performance at previously defined conditions (for exemple Eurovent certification conditions); 2) non-nominal conditions performance properties. Usually these properties are curves or tables describing the variation of the nominal conditions properties when operation conditions change in HVAC equipments. This paper demonstrate how important these last properties are, calculating the energy consumption for one case study and showing the results difference using or not the non-nominal conditions performance properties. Non-nominal conditions performance must be accessible using normalized testing conditions and formats.
