SKM enviros eco-efficency study of supermarket refrigeration.

Number: pap. ID: 231

Author(s) : VOIGT A.

Summary

A new study conducted by the British environmental consultants SKM Enviros and commissioned by the industry expert association EPEE analyses the global warming impact of various types of refrigeration systems used in European supermarkets. The report is based on the eco efficiency methodology which takes into account the various greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the life cycle of a refrigeration system. This study demonstrates that the retail sector and refrigeration industry can achieve the best level of performance and minimal climate impact of their systems through technological optimization of all considered technologies: either by improving HFC based refrigeration systems in line with the requirements of the European F-Gas Regulation or via the maturation of CO2 based refrigeration systems.
