Summary
The authors report on the use of the aluminium alloy Al 5056 as a variable thermal link for temperatures below 1 K. Below 0.925 K this alloy is superconducting and its thermal conductivity varies as T3. The range of thermal conductivity values covered by this material is such that it is still a good heat conductor at 1 K while it is a good isolator at 0.01 K.
