THE AUTHOR FIRST REVIEWS SOLAR ENERGY, AND DEFINES THE PHYSICAL PROBLEMS OF ITS APPLICATION TO THE PRODUCTION OF COLD, IN PARTICULAR FOR PRESERVING VACCINES IN A TROPICAL AMBIENCE AND TRANSPORTING THEM IN AN INSULATING CONTAINER. THE TWO METHODS OF PRODUCTION, PHOTOVOLTAIC AND PHOTOTHERMAL, ARE STUDIED, AND A PHOTOTHERMAL SOLAR REFRIGERATOR WHICH IS OPERATIONAL AND MASS-PRODUCED IS PRESENTED, ALONG WITH THE RESULTS OF ITS UTILIZATION.
