Solid-liquid equilibrium property measurements for R23 alternative candidates.

Summary

R23, with a GWP of 14600, is the only refrigerant suitable for ultra-low-temperature applications used at temperatures typically below -50 °C. Although the consumed amount of R23 is less than that of other refrigerants, its consumption is strictly controlled due to its high GWP. For screening low-GWP refrigerant mixture for ultra-low temperature applications, the composition dependence in freezing point depression is essential information for selecting the combination and composition. This work presents a predicted value for R469A (R744/R125/R32: 35.0/32.5/32.5 mass%) liquidus point temperature, which can perform as R23 substitutes. The solid-liquid equilibrium was experimentally quantified for constituent binary systems and compared to Schröder-van-Laar equation. Then, an activity coefficient of the equation was correlated to composition. With the modified activity coefficient, the prediction of the R469A liquidus point temperature was somewhat improved. In addition, the cas
