Solubility and miscibility of environmentally safer refrigerant/lubricant mixtures.

Summary

R134a is being introduced into the air-conditioning and refrigerating industry as the preferred, environmentally safer alternative to R12. Polyalkylene glycols (PAGs), modified PAGs, and esters are the primary lubricants that are now being tested for use with R134a. There is a need for data on the solubility and miscibility of R134a with these new lubricants. The paper presents such data for some PAGs and modified PAGs. The data are analyzed using the Flory-Huggins theory.
