Summary

IN VIEW OF THE UNCERTAINTY ABOUT THE EXACT WATER ACTIVITY OF SOME SATURATED SALT SOLUTIONS USED AS REFERENCE SOURCES, THE USE OF UNSATURATED LITHIUM CHLORIDE SOLUTIONS AS ISOPIESTIC STANDARDS FOR CALIBRATION OF WATER ACTIVITY MEASURING DEVICES, IS PROPOSED. IT IS SHOWN THAT THERE IS A VERY GOOD AGREEMENT BETWEEN DIFFERENT LITERATURE EXPERIMENTAL WATER ACTIVITY DATA AND PREDICTED VALUES. THE CALCULATED WATER ACTIVITY DATA ARE PRESENTED IN TABULATED FORM AT 0.5% WEIGHT INTERVALS AND AT TEMPERATURES BETWEEN 278 AND 318 K.
