SOME FACTS ABOUT THE TRANSPORT OF GREENHOUSE PRODUCTS BY MEANS OF REFRIGERATED WAGONS.

QUELQUES ASPECTS CONCERNANT LE TRANSPORT DES PRODUITS DE SERRE PAR DES WAGONS REFRIGERANTS.

Summary

SOME EXPERIMENTAL TRANSPORT RUNS HAVE BEEN PERFORMED WITH TOMATOES, GREEN (SWEET) PEPPERS AND CUCUMBERS PACKED IN CORRUGATED-BOARD OR WOODEN BOXES LOADED IN REFRIGERATED WAGON COOLED BY WATER ICE AND DRY ICE, IN REFRIGERATED TRUCKS, ISOTHERMAL WAGONS AND REFRIGERATED TRAINS. THE INVESTIGATIONS HAVE RESULTED IN THE FOLLOWING: AN INCREASE IN THE CARGO LOAD DEPENDING UPON EXPERIMENTAL STACKING PATTERNS AND THE PRODUCT LOAD TO BE TRANSPORTED; THE USE OF WATER ICE FOR REFRIGERATION NECESSITATES OPERATING RELIABILITY, BUT IT ENSURES KEEPING OF PRODUCT QUALITY, ACHIEVES THE RELATIVE HUMIDITY NEEDED FOR MAINTAINING PRODUCT FORM AND THEIR NATURAL AS WELL AS MARKETING QUALITIES AND, FINALLY IT ENSURES SLOW COOLING WITHOUT THERMAL SHOCK; BY CALCULATING THE COOLING BALANCE ONE CAN REDUCE THE ICE CONSUMPTION BY 1 TO 1.5 TON PER WAGON.
