THE PAPER DESCRIBES A NOVEL HORIZONTAL GROUND HEAT EXCHANGE SYSTEM USED IN AN EXPERIMENTAL GROUND SOURCE HEAT PUMP INSTALLATION. THE BASIC CONCEPT IS TO ACTIVATE A LARGE MASS OF SOIL BY EMPLOYING < LARGE > (UP TO 600 MM) SPIRAL HEAT EXCHANGERS MADE OF COPPER AND HIGH DENSITY POLYETHYLENE TUBING.
