Summary
The current worldwide problems with the coronavirus pandemic have demonstrated the fragility of the pharmaceutical supply chain. The transition from traditional batch processes to continuous manufacturing of biopharmaceuticals would offer tremendous benefits. The purpose of the current review is to give a comprehensive discussion of both advantages and challenges of spray freeze-drying as a continuous operation.
