THE REVIEW DESCRIBES A SIMPLE METHOD FOR CALCULATING THE STABILITY MARGINS OF SUPERCONDUCTORS COOLED WITH SUBCOOLED HELIUM II. THE METHOD, WHICH IS BASED ON AN IDEA OF SEYFERT ET AL, ACCOUNTS FOR BOTH TIME-DEPENDENT GORTER-MELLINK HEAT TRANSPORT AND THE EFFECTS OF INTERFACIAL KAPITZA RESIST THE METHOD HAS BEEN COMPARED FAVOURABLY WITH HEAT TRANSFER DATA OF SEYFERT ET AL AND STABILITY DATA OF MEURIS AND PFOTENHAUER AND VAN SCIVER. A SIMPLEDESIGN PROCEDURE BASED ON THE METHOD IS PRESENTED.
