Summary

THE STABILITY OF A SUPERCONDUCTING COMPOSITE WIRE HAS BEEN INVESTIGATED FOR FINITE THERMAL DISTURBANCES. CONDITIONS FOR FULL AND PARTIAL STABILITY HAVE BEEN ANALYSED. THE CONDITION ENSURING THE EXISTENCE OF A REGION OF ACCIDENT-FREE WORKING REGIMES, UP TO THE CRITICAL MAGNETIC FIELD, HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED. IT HAS BEEN FOUND THAT COOLED SUPERCONDUCTORS CAN HAVE NO REGION OF FULL THERMAL STABILITY OVER THE WHOLE RANGE OF MAGNETIC FIELD VARIATIONS (FROM ZERO TO THE CRITICALVE. THE CRITERION EQUATION DESCRIBING THE ABOVE-MENTIONED STATES HAS BEEN DERIVED. THE STABLE REGIMES OF THE COMPOSITE CONDUCTOR PERFORMANCE HAVE BEEN CALCULATED.
