State of the art of new technologies applied to chillers, 42nd Informatory Note on Refrigeration Technologies.

Author(s) : WANG B., LI X.

Type of article: Informatory note

Summary

The global energy use for space cooling is expected to nearly triple by 2050. Therefore, it becomes a critical work to reduce the energy consumption for space cooling in order to lower its effects on climate.
For public buildings, energy savings in space cooling rely on the proper design, installation, operation and maintenance of the central airconditioning system. Within the system, the design of energy-efficient chillers plays the most important role.
This IIR Informatory Note presents the principle of the chiller as well as the state of the art of chiller technologies regarding refrigerants, evaporators, compressor, and systems. It aims to enhance the awareness that the high energy efficiency chiller is core equipment for decreasing the energy consumption during space cooling in public buildings and proposes for this purpose a set of recommendations.
