Summary

This document presents an overview of agriculture worldwide, and then focuses on new member countries of the European Union, on France, and on French overseas territories (agricultural and plant production and breeding). Economic and social aspects, along with training and education, are presented and the importance of the agri-food industry is underlined. The position of France within Europe is defined for all these sectors. Many statistical data are provided.
