Stirling cycle refrigerators and heat pumps.

Author(s) : LUNDQVIST P. G.

Summary

Stirling cycle refrigeration has not lived up to the energy efficiencies now realized by typical piston-type compressors. There are free-piston type Stirling cycle compressors that have come close to the energy efficiency of traditional compressor technologies. This is, however, an in-kind technology that could replace applications that are currently being held at halogenated refrigerants, be it at some degree of energy efficiency loss.
