Test results for Stirling cycle cooled domestic refrigerators.

Summary

A preliminary investigation has been conducted into the performance of free-piston Stirling coolers integrated with well insulated cabinets. The integration of FPSCs into domestic refrigerator cabinets requires different techniques from conventional compressor systems. One possible methodology is discussed in the paper in which plastic heat exchangers are used with secondary heat transfer fluid. Steady state data on one fully installed system shows close to 30% improvement in energy consumption over the original equipment.
