A brick-walled, evaporative cooler maintained the freshness and extended the shelf life of plantain (banana) fruits by 9.5 days and reduced weight loss by 80%. Packaging the fruits in polyethylene further extended the shelf life by 4 days, delayed fruit ripening in the cooler for 9.6 days and reduced weight loss by another 2%.
