Summary

Valencia oranges were packed in perforated or unperforated polyethylene bags, or left unpacked, and stored for 30 days in a brick-wall evaporative cooler. Control fruit left unpacked at ambient conditions lost 31.4% in weight, whereas those in the cooler lost only 4.2%. The weight loss in the cooler was further reduced to 3 and 1.2% for fruits in perforated and unperforated bags, respectively. Fruits left in ambient conditions shrivelled and wilted badly.
