Summary

An attempt has been made to standardize some easy and inexpensive methods of precooling in cut roses to improve postharvest life and quality of roses cv. Raktagandha. Five different types of precooling methods were tested. Ice cold water spray for 45 minutes gave maximum vase life (8.8 days), flower diameter (9.5 cm) and water uptake (9.0 ml) while cold storage at 4 °C for 24 h significantly increased the fresh and dry weight, vase life (9.4 days), water uptake (9.5 ml) and flower diameter (10.0 cm) of the cut roses over the other treatments.
