Summary

The initial refrigerant had to be replaced with a mixture of which pressure-temperature curve should be virtually the same as before, as well as volumetric capacity and power input. Two refrigerants were finally selected: (i) R402A, which should be considered provisional because it contains R22; and (ii) R404A. The difference between their respective costs led to select R402A. The plant is planned to operate with this refrigerant for all its expected life, i.e. 10 years. Since the replacement of the refrigerant, the plant has been operating for four months without any problem. J.G.
