Study of CO2 transcritical cycle for refrigerating and heat pump systems.

Summary

The warning about greenhouse effects due to chlorine and fluorinated refrigerants had been discussion aim in several international scientific meetings. The reintroduction of R-744 (CO2) as natural refrigerant will open a new perspective of market, becoming it more competitive and increasing the equipments efficiencies. The objective of this work is study a CO2 transcritical cycle for a refrigerating/heat pumps applications in the ambit of a European Project labelled "GROUNDHIT - Ground Coupled Heat Pumps of High Technology" from Sixth Framework Programme. A technology survey about transcritical cycles allows a better knowledge about the components of the system, make some improvements and develop the technology. A study of functioning parameters using thermography equipment, parameters like, gas cooler and evaporator pressure and temperature, discharge compressor temperature, temperature difference and outlet temperature in gas cooler for a transcritical cycle (one and two stage cycle) allows determine best operating conditions and best performance value.
