Study on efficiency improvement of packaged air conditioners for year round cooling (effects of allowable minimum compression ratio and expansion valve capacity).

Author(s) : UEKUSA T., WARAGAI S., NAKAO M.

Summary

Focusing on air conditioners used for year-round cooling, high-efficiency operation at times of low outdoor air temperature can be achieved by lowering the condensing pressure and operating at a low compression ratio. A year-round cooling air conditioner was constructed, and a performance test showed that the COP of the compression cycle could exceed 10 at maximum for an outdoor air temperature of 0 °C. This air conditioner was deployed for one year in Tokyo in the same cooling-load environment: power consumption decreased by about 40% over the year.
