STUDY ON FEEDING AN EVAPORATOR WITH THERMOSTATIC AND ELECTRICAL EXPANSION VALVES.

Author(s) : GAUTHERIN W., DERENS E.

Summary

TWO TYPES OF EXPANSION VALVES WERE FITTED ON A GLASS EVAPORATOR OF A REFRIGERATING PLANT ; THE INTERNAL SURFACES OF THE TUBES WERE COATED WITH A METALLIC OXIDEIN ORDER TO ASSIST THE BOILING OF THE CIRCULATING REFRIGERANT FLUID. TWO TYPES OF FLUID FLOW ARE PRESENTED, AS WELL AS THE CHANGES IN THESE FLOWS INSIDE THE EVAPORATOR AND THE VOID FRACTION, OBTAINED THANKS TO FIBER OPTICS, AS A FUNCTIONOF THE MASS FLOW AND OF THE HEAT FLUX OF BOTH EXPANSION VALVES. FURTHERMORE, THE TEMPERATURE OF THE TUBE WALLS WAS MEASURED, AS WELL AS THE HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENTS AND THE PRESSURE DROP OF THE REFRIGERANT FLOWING IN THE EVAPORATOR.
