Summary

The different types of triple-effect lithium bromide refrigeration cycles were investigated. A computer program has been developed to simulate the performances of different types of triple-effect cycles, altogether 69 kinds of triple-effect cycles, covering different refrigerant solution flows, different refrigerant vapour flows, and cooling water flows. From the numerical results of the computer program, the most optimum triple-effect cycle was chosen, with the expected COP and comparative lower temperature as well as pressure in high-pressure generator. Some parameters that influence heavily the performance of system are analyzed. These parameters are the cooling water temperature, chilled water temperature, the maximum concentration of strong solution, etc. The COP of this new cycle is up from 1.70 to 1.97 as cooling water temperature varies from 33 to 24°C, which is about 40% higher than the COP of double-effect cycles. Thus, it could be considered as a good candidate for designing or studying the triple-effect lithium bromide refrigeration machine.
