Summary
The application of pentanes and R141b as blowing agents is discussed. R141b is only a mid-term solution. Among the hydrocarbons with 3 or 4 carbon atoms and a number of excellent candidates have already been recognized. In the period 1986-1995 the efforts of the PUR foam producers have resulted in a decrease of 96% in the consumption of ozone depleting substances.
