Supermarkets enhance systems to reduce TEWI impact.

Author(s) : LIKES P. W.

Summary

A typical supermarket may have several miles of piping, which can include thousands of joints, and the opportunity for potential leak reduction. Estimates on annual leak rates vary from 15 to 30% and more, depending on the owner and type of system. Refrigerant selection and equipment type then begin to take on great importance, and consideration of global-warming potential (GWP) and EER makes an interesting analysis. In some instances, it may be more beneficial to select a system that offers a low TEWI than it is to select a refrigerant that has a low GWP value. Significant improvements have been made by manufacturers to reduce refrigerant charge, leakage and COP.
