Summary

This study presents a comparative evaluation of different evaporator types used in cold storage applications, with a focus on sustainability, energy efficiency, and cold chain reliability. Hangar-type, industrial types ceiling, double flow type and floor-mounted evaporators were analysed considering air distribution, defrost methods, environmental impact, and operational performance. Both field applications and R&D-based design improvements were integrated to assess the balance between energy consumption and cooling efficiency. Evaporator designs are focused on the relationship between maximum capacity and minimum energy targets and environmentally friendly refrigerants with low global warming potential. The study highlights how optimized evaporator selection can contribute to more sustainable refrigeration systems, reducing energy demand and minimizing product losses throughout the cold chain. The results provide practical insights for improving the environmental and economic performance of modern cold storage facilities.
