Summary
ANIMALS NARCOTIZED WITH ETHER WERE COOLED TO 291 K (18 DEG C) AT A RATE OF 1 K PER 240 TO 300 SEC. THE ACTIVITY OF EPIDERMIC ENZYMES WAS MEASURED AT THE DEPTH OF COOLING, AFTER WARMING AND IN DIFFERENT PERIODS AFTER HYPOTHERMIA. MINIMUM CHANGES INTHE ENZYME ACTIVITY WERE OBSERVED IN YOUNG RATS AT THE DEPTH OF COOLING. COMPENSATING INCREASE IN THE ENZYME ACTIVITY APPEARED TO OCCUR IN ADULTS AND AGED RATS AFTER HYPOTHERMIA.
