THE INHIBITING EFFECT OF STREPTOCOCCUS DIACETILACTIS ON SOME STRAINS OF BACILLUS GEN., THE FAMILY OF ENTEROBACTERIACEAE, THE PSEUDOMONAS GROUP, MORAXELLA AND ALSO THREE UNIDENTIFIED MICROORGANISMS ISOLATED FROM FISH WAS STUDIED. THIS SPECIES WAS THEN USED AS AN INHIBITING FACTOR FOR THE MULTIPLICATION OF BACTERIA PRESENT IN FISH. THE INHIBITION OF THE GROWTH OF PSYCHROTROPHIC BACTERIA IN HERRING BY CULTURE ON WHEY WITH S. DIACETILACTIS AT 277 K (4 DEG C) WAS ESTABLISHED.
