Summary

The propane/butane mixture used is liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) which is locally available, cheap and environmentally friendly, with no ozone depleting potential. It is used in Jordan for cooking purposes. The refrigerator used in the present study is designed to work on CFC-12. The performance parameters investigated are refrigeration capacity, compressor power and COP. The refrigerator worked efficiently with LPG. The evaporator temperature reached -15 deg C with a COP value of 3.4 at a condenser temperature of 27 deg C and an ambient temperature of 20 deg C. The refrigerator has been working satisfactorily since 1994 without any side effects or need of adjustment.
