Author(s) : LEMBERT P.

Type of article: Article

Summary

The author begins the country comparison by describing the very different logistic basic data of Germany and France - size, population density and distribution - in order to continue with a summary of the existing cold store capacities, their equipment and occupancy rates. Tendencies towards company concentration in both countries are also discussed. Then follows a review of the perishable goods' market, which considers the different consumption attitutes as well as the structure of distribution services and their relation to other logistic sectors. Partnership between cold stores and deep frozen food producers, a model especially fostered in France, is also outlined. The author finally gives an outlook on the mid-term perspectives of the branch till the year 2000.
