THE AUTHOR GIVES THE PRESENT SITUATION ON THE PROBLEM. HE SUMMARIZES THE VICISSITUDES OF DISCUSSIONS AT THE TIME OF SUSPICIONS ABOUT THE ROLE OF NITROGEN OXIDE EMISSIONS BYTHE CONCORDE JET WHICH LED TO IMPORTANT STUDIES RESULTING IN THE ACCUSATION OF CHLORINE OXIDES AND THE EVIDENCE OF THE ROLE OF CHLOROFLUOROCARBONS (CFCS). THE ANNOUNCEMENT IN 1985 OF THE ANTARCTIC OZONE DEPLETION GAVE A NEW IMPULSE TO PROJECTS ON INTERNATIONAL REGULATIONS ABOUT THE PRODUCTION AND USEOF THE AUTHOR DISCUSSES POLITICAL AND INDUSTRIAL INVOLVEMENTS AND EXPLAINS THE DEVELOPMENT OF NEOCATNSUNINHE VIENNA CONVENTION (1985) AND THE MONTREAL PROTOCOL (1987) AND HOW THE CONCEPT OF THE DUAL LIMITATION OF DIFFERENT LEVELS OF CFC PRODUCTION AND CONSUMPTION WAS ATTAINED. THE AUTHOR QUERIES THE CHANCES OF SEEING REGULATIONS BEING RESPECTED IN THE FUTURE. SINCE DISCUSSIONS HAVE NOT CLOSED EITHER AT POLITICAL, INDUSTRIAL OR SCIENTIFIC LEVELS, INVESTIGATIONS F THE ATMOSPHERE. J.R.
