Summary

The influence of some substances on the tolerance of blackcurrants to spring frost was tested. 3 cryoprotectants increased fruit set and yield of bushes exposed to spring frosts as low as -5 deg C. Application of cryoprotectants during sunny weather appeared phytotoxic to buds and flowers. Comparatively high fruit set and normal yield was obtained in unfavourable conditions (mean daily air temperature about 6 deg C) when blackcurrant bushes were sprayed with the stimulant Atonik. Foliar application of mixtures decreased fruit set.
