The energy requirements of conventional tumbler clothes drying systems.

Summary

The paper discusses the drying processes of three different designs of household clothes tumbler dryers. The relative advantages and disadvantages and the energy analyses of the dryers are presented. A parametric study has also been presented to assess the effects of different variables on the thermodynamic performance of these dryers in order to improve their energy efficiency or specific moisture extraction rate. It is shown that the conventional tumbler dryer technology can be improved significantly by the use of heat recovery heat exchangers.
