The Hall effect in superconductor stability.

Summary

The phenomenon of Hall-effect-induced transient currents during transport current redistribution is treated. Approximate calculations show the transient Hall effect heating to be of the same order as the heating associated with the transport current redistribution in a superconductor undergoing a resistive transition, ie, a propagating normal zone. The phenomenon will also be active in the alternating current skin effect with high-purity conductors in background fields, increasing the losses above those predicted by "skin depth" computations.
