BETWEEN 1978 AND 1982 THE VOLUME OF ICE CREAM ON THE NORWEGIAN MARKET (INCLUDING IMPORTED ICE CREAM) INCREASED FROM 35 TO 39.6 MILLION L AND PER CAPITA CONSUMPTION WENT UP FROM 9.1 TO 10.1 L. THE NORWEGIANS AND THE SCANDINAVIANS IN GENERAL ARE AMONG THE WORLD'S BIGGEST CONSUMERS OF ICE CREAM, ALTHOUGH CONSUMPTION IN THE USA (20 L) IS MUCH HIGHER. FOR A TOTAL OUTPUT OF 36,671,000 L IN 1982 THE NORWEGIAN ICE CREAM INDUSTRY USED 9.5% (2,255,000 KG) OF NORWEGIAN BUTTER OUTPUT, 35% (1,522,000 KG) OF DRIED SKIM MILK OUTPUT AND 39% (550,000 KG) OF DRIED WHEY OUTPUT.
