Summary

Very often, pharmaceutical companies deliver drugs to hospitals via logistics sub-contractors, refrigeration specialistes within the framework of Good Distribution Practices. CHU Caen Teaching Hospital performed an evaluation of 144 deliveries comprising 257 cartons performed by transporters of refrigerated products. This evaluation made it possible to identify actions that must be implemented in order to improve the distribution of heat-sensitive drugs from the production unit to the healthcare facility with a view to ensuring patient safety. It is vital to use refrigerated vehicles in order to comply with temperature requirements and to ensure traceability using in situ temperature recorders along with indicators inside the cartons.
