THE MONTOIR 35 M DIAMETER LNG POOL FIRE EXPERIMENTS.

Summary

THE MODELS FOR EVALUATING THE DANGERS OF A FIRE IN A LNG POOL WERE VALIDATED BY FIRES OF SIZES CONSIDERABLY SMALLER TO THOSE OF THE FIRES CONSIDERED. BUT, MANY PHENOMENA LINKED TO THE EMISSION OF THERMAL RADIATION DEPEND ON THE SIZE OF THE FIR THUS, THE BEST SOLUTION IS TO GET TEST RESULTS FOR SIZES AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE TO THOSE OF THE FIRES CONSIDERED. THREE FIRES IN A LNG TANK OF 35 M DIAMETER WERE SUCCESSFULLY STUDIED IN MONTOIR, FRANCE, IN DIFFERENT WIND CONDITIONS. THE AUTHORS DESCRIBE THE EXPERIMENTS CARRIED OUT, WHOSE RESULTS CONSTITUTE A UNIQUE DATA BASE.
