EQUATIONS ARE PRESENTED WHICH RELATE THE ACTUAL VALUE OF THE COP OF A HEAT PUMP TO THE THEORETICAL RANKINE COP BY EFFICIENCIES WHICH DEPEND UPON THE COMPRESSION RATIO AND THE DESIGN OF THE PARTICULAR HEAT PUMP SYSTEM. IT IS SHOWN THAT THE COMPARISON OF PREDICTION OF THE COP WITH MEASURED VALUES GIVE POSSIBILITIES FOR PRELIMINARY DESIGN OF HEAT PUMP SYSTEMS.
