Summary

A HEAT PUMP HAS THE DUTY OF RECOVERING HEAT FROM A FLUID AT LOWER TEMPERATURE THAN THAT WHICH IS REQUIRED FOR ROOM HEATING. THE HEAT PUMP CAN DRAW HEAT FROM A LOWER TEMPERATURE SOURCE AND SUPPLY IT TO A WARMER AMBIENCE, AND IT SUPPLIES MORE HEAT THAN IT CONSUMES ENERGY. THIS IS CALLED THE PERFORMANCE WHICH IS EVALUATED BY A COEFFICIENT OF PERFORMANCE AND CAN BE EXPRESSED IN THREE WAYS: THE THEORETICAL COEFFICIENT OF PERFORMANCE COPTH, THE COEFFICIENT OF PERFORMANCE OF THE MACHINE COP AND THAT OF THE EXPLOITATION COE. THE SYSTEMS USED ARE THE SOURCES OF COLD SUPPLY, THE AIR EXTRACTED FROM THE ROOMS, THE EXTERNAL AIR, WATER FROM A WELL, A RIVER OR LAKE, THE SOIL (WITH BURIED RECEIVER). (Bull.
