Summary

The ultimate yardstick for the conditioning of products in refrigerated holds is the temperature distribution. The range of product temperatures is related to heat load and air circulation by a coefficient, which takes account of the geometrical configuration of equipment and cargo, determining the distribution of the circulating air. The distribution of product temperatures within the range depends on the strategy of air temperature control and can be approached by statistical distribution functions. Closely related to the temperature criterion, the coefficient of system performance yields an energy criterion, which is part of the global warming criterion.
