The "SUESAM" systems: storage and upgrading of exergy by separation and mixing. A generalisation of the concept of sorption heat pump.

Author(s) : LE GOFF P.

Summary

In a sorption heat pump, the components of a mixture are separated on the one hand and remixed on the other hand by vaporisation/condensation-sorption, using thermal energy, or more precisely thermal exergy. A generalisation consists in using other forms of exergy, mechanical, electrical. Furthermore, storing the separated components may be considered as a way of storing exergy in a chemical form. Four main cases are be discussed: thermal separation and thermal mixing; mechanical separation and mechanical mixing; mechanical separation and thermal mixing; thermal separation and mechanical mixing.
