THE RECIPROCATING REFRIGERATION COMPRESSOR: GREATER EFFICIENCY THROUGH IMPROVED VALVE DESIGN.

Author(s) : FLEMING J. S.

Summary

THE PAPER DESCRIBES A COMPUTER AIDED METHOD FOR THE DESIGN OF THE VALVES IN RECIPROCATING REFRIGERATION AND GAS COMPRESSORS. THE PREDICTION OF VALVE DYNAMIC BEHAVIOUR IS GREATLY HINDERED BY THE LACK OF ADEQUATE ANALYTICAL METHODS FOR DETERMINING THE FLUID FORCES ACTING ON THE VALVE PLATE AS IT MOVES. IN THE TECHNIQUE DESCRIBED HERE FLUID FORCES ACTING ON MODEL VALVES ARE MEASURED IN A SPECIALLY CONSTRUCTED TEST RIG AND THE MEASURED DATA IS USED IN A COMPUTERISED MATHEMATICAL MODEL OF A RECIPROCATING COMPRESSOR.
