The solid deuterium UCN source on the base of the pulse spallation source.

Author(s) : SEREBROV A., MITYUKHLYAEV V., ZAKHAROV A., et al.

Summary

A new type of ultracold neutron (UCN) source, operating on the base of the pulse spallation source, is proposed. Use of solid deuterium makes it possible to obtain UCNs with a density of 10(4) n/cm(3) due to a great gain factor of solid deuterium at a low temperature and the capability of solid deuterium to resist high heat loads (because of its high thermal capacity).
