Summary

This year, the topic of this annual report is "Agricultural trade and poverty: can trade work for the poor?" The report examines the many ways trade and trade liberalization affect the poor and food-insecure. It gives world and regional reviews (facts and figures and contains statistical annexes. It is found that trade can be a catalyst for change, promoting conditions that enable the poor to raise their incomes and live longer, healthier and more productive lives. Included in this issue is a mini CD-ROM of the FAO Statistical Yearbook: Abridged FAOSTAT CD 2004, containing time series data for 250 countries and regions in Arabic, Chinese, English, French and Spanish.
