Summary
The United States has pledged 531 million USD to the development and construction of the large Hadron Collider at the European Centre for Nuclear Research (CERN), with roughly 200 million USD of that amount in support of superconductor and other accelerator related materials and equipment. In addition to supplying materials for European-built magnets, the funds are being used to develop advanced magnets and other equipment and services within the US at national laboratories. The main technical challenges concerning the construction of LHC are mentioned.
