The use of a nitrogen-argon mixture as the working gas in a Joule-Thomson cryogenic refrigerator.

Author(s) : ZHANG L., ZHANG G. G.

Summary

Analysis of experimental results shows that this kind of Joule-Thomson cryogenic refrigerator with a nitrogen-argon gas mixture is more efficient than that of a single gas. Its cool-down time and cooling temperature can be regulated flexibly by adjusting the ratio of nitrogen to argon, its refrigerating temperature can be easily controlled to about 80 K and its cool-down time is also shorter than that where pure nitrogen gas is used. This kind of cooler will be widely used in infrared guiding systems.
