Summary

The capacity of the environment (climate) to allow fungal growth was quantified using the fungal index. The index numerically represents the growth of fungi as a comparison with their growth under the standard climate. With a higher fungal index, fungi more rapidly grew, and a greater variety of fungi grew. The microclimate in a house could be expressed using this index. Climate parameters (temperature, relative humidity, absolute humidity, fungal index) were inter-related. Under a climate with the same absolute humidity, the fungal index was higher in places at lower temperatures.
