THE AUTHOR DESCRIBES A PROJECT IN THE MIDDLE EAST INVOLVING THE AIR CONDITIONING OF A MANUFACTURING PLANT AND OFFICES. BOTH POWER AND WATER WERE LIMITED, WHICH PREVENTED THE EXTENSIVE USE OF MECHANICAL REFRIGERATION. MOST OF THE AIR-COOLING WAS CARRIED OUT BY ADIABATIC SATURATION AND THE ENTRY AIR WAS CONTROLLED IN TEMPERATURE USING REGENERATIVE ROTARY HEAT EXCHANGERS. IN HIGH AMBIENT TEMPERATURES, ENERGY RECOVERY WAS OBTAINED BY COOLING INCOMING AIR BY HEAT EXCHANGE WITH EXHAUST AIR. BECAUSE OF CONTAMINANTS IN EXHAUST AIR EXTRACTED FROM THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS, THE ROTARY EXCHANGERS HAD TO BE FITTED WITH CLEANING DEVICES.
